Chico

On the 2nd hole Bernie Pallant's son (11 yrs old)  tees off first.  His drive passes the fairway trap on the right. I hit next, hit a good drive for me, short of the same trap. I think, he's not stronger than me, I need some lessons.  Bill Melhorn, a noted pro from the old days says, Howard you're dropping your right shoulder which causes you to slice and lose distance.  After a few lessons, its still a  habit.  So I take a lesson from the new pro from Pittsburgh who tells me at the end of the lesson,  I'm dropping my shoulder. And then I go to Sonny Rouse, a tour player and good instructor.  Habit stays.
Chico and Maxine
I'm on the practice tee, I'm admiring Bobby Shave who is getting ready to play in the Doral Open. He is hitting ball after ball that bounce in front of the 250 marker.  Chico is giving a lesson  4 spaces down.  He finishes his lesson and is walking off the practice tee when Bobby says, "Hey Chic", and waves him over.  I can't hear what they are saying but Chico slaps a part of Bobby's anatomy and demonstrates with the club in his hand.  Bobby puts a ball on the tee.  Wham!!   Ball flies over the 250 marker.  He puts another ball down, wham!!  Over the marker again.  Says, thanks Chic, and now ball after ball fly over the marker.  Right there I make a decision.
Chico says, hit a ball.  Ball slices.  He tells me  to hit the ball with a raking feeling, which I did and the ball went straight. It wasn't that easy but his method was to have you do something which would prevent you from doing the bad habit.  The shoulder was never mentioned and I stopped slicing.  .  One year in Chicago, where the pro tour was at that time,  he sees Hal Sutton doing something on the practice range and starts telling him about it. This results in the two of them spending much time before the tournament starts. Hal wins the tournament.  His comment to the press was to credit and thank Chico and say if Chic would just not talk about other things . . . Yes, Chic talked about other things.  My handicap went under 20, than under 15, then under 10 and finally to a 7.  Thanks Chic. And thanks for all the kids you helped.

Internet

When I order something on the internet, I usually X out of the order on the order-cart page if they forgot my password.  This began happening so often I mentioned it to a friend who suggested maybe it was me who forgot the password.  That seemed reasonable, so now I don't leave when either one of us forget my password, but I still   X  out and now almost as often as before, because they want me to correctly decipher some jumbled letters before they will change my password. And I  need the password to complete the sale. If they want to do that,  I have a suggestion,  stop making those letters as if you don't want them to be understood.

Bit:

Why do politicians lie?  Because they think if they told the truth about themselves they couldn't get elected.

Waldo

Waldo

Waldo came late to tennis.  He was a senior in high school, athletic  and had good eye hand coordination.  But his real talent was fixin stuff.  If your car radio went out or if you wanted to add speakers, get Waldo.  As for girls, he  always seemed to have a different girl friend.  There was a whole contingent from Brazil who were always asking me if I knew where he was.  Well anyway graduation was on tap and Waldo told me he was worried about the ceremony.  The teacher said everyone in the class had to wear black shoes.  He didn't have any and he didn't want to ask his Mom.  It also meant he didn't want to say that in front of  his classmates.  I canvassed all the adult players to solve the problem, but no luck.  So Waldo graduated wearing a pair of my black shoes, almost 3 sizes too big, with toilet paper in the toes.  Now Waldo is an adult and a  volunteer for Dwight's Computers for Kids and incidentally, whenever one of my printers goes on the fritz, I call Waldo.   And, it hasn't happened yet but,  if another kid has the black shoe problem, I still have the shoes.

Newt

Even if you are a Republican its pretty hard to look favorably at a guy who chooses to tell his wife he's wants a divorce when she is in the hospital being treated for cancer.

But I guess he doesn't think he'd hurt the image of his pals who are in the 'running for president' group.  And even I know Newt is more intelligent than that bunch.   So I guess going on television and saying something one way and then a few days later, on television again, saying exactly the opposite, is not so bad.  Of course they all do it  .Except, would  we want a president like that?  The following poem was inspired by Newt and Republicans who never tire of thinking voters will continue to accept  saying you're going to do stuff even though you have no intention of actually doing it.
"Hey Rand and Newt and all  you politicians,
 watch what you say,
When you take a position on tv; today.
Because YouTube shows both tv spots, right away!"
